This past weekend was the 2016 San Jose Open. After a very long two days our team came home with first place in both the gi and no gi divisions. This would not have been possible with out the sacrifice of so many people. From the affiliates who flew in early for our annual association camp, to their families who supported and believed in them, to everyone at our Academy. Great job guys!
Two weeks ago marked the end of the 2016 European open championship. This is the first major of 2016 and I couldn’t be happier with everyones performance. This is the 3rd year I made over for the Europeans and it’s amazing to see the growth of the sport. As a competitor I captured my 3rd European title, but more importantly I got an opportunity to test my spirit. In the final, I hurt my rib early and it really bothered me. At one point I wasn’t so concerned with winning or losing but trying to finish the match. Great job Koji, you always push everyone to be better and I’m glad to have competed against you all these years!
As 2015 comes to a close I spent some time reflecting on the year and what a year it has been!
When we started our association 3 years ago I always knew a reorganization was coming. It’s very hard to ask people to be a part of something they do not believe in, and in 2015 we were able to resolve our differences.
A black belt is major mile stone for both student and teacher. It’s always extra special for the instructor when that student also started their journey with them and you get to see them progress on and off the mat. Huge congrats to Chuong Son on the Faixa Preta, keep training, Jiu Jitsu only gets better. Also huge congrats to Professor Jay Pages, on guiding Chuong from white to black, that truly is a great achievement!!
When you visit the BJJ lab in Zurich Switzerland, you’re sure to learn BJJ, make friends, get fit and have fun! Headed by BJJ black belt and founder JB, BJJ lab is one of the premier Jiu Jitsu gyms in Zurich. Whether your focus is to have fun or to compete BJJ lab has something for everyone!
This has been an incredible year for both Jay Pages BJJ and MMA as well as the Strong Heart academy and there was no better way to end it then at the 2015 masters cup.
Going into this years worlds no gi from the outside everything looked the same but for me it was completely different.
As we were training I looked at our team and saw in their eyes the same dreams I had when I was younger, to be a champion. This year has been a defining year in my life, I realized that although I like to compete I like coaching more, because I love our team.
This past weekend was the 20th edition of the US Open, in Santa Cruz, California. When I started CTA in 2012, I knew I was building something special, in 2013 we won the US Open, came up a little short in 2014 and in 2015 we came home with the adult, overall, and female first place trophies!
Pursue Martial Arts opened in 2009 under the instruction of Jason Trzewieczynski, Buffalo’s most experienced Pro MMA competitor. Pursue Martial Arts offers BJJ and Muay Thai classes to both kids and adults. The family atmosphere is very welcoming, providing members a fun and effective way to get in shape while learning self defense. PMA’s facility is spotless, with automatic hand sanitizers throughout, antimicrobial treated mats, showers and private changing rooms for convenience
When I visit affiliate academies it isn’t the level of Jiu Jitsu that I observe, but the culture of the gym. This is the most important thing in my opinion because even if you have the most technical Jiu Jitsu instructors in the world, if the environment is toxic only bad things will grow.
