About the School
Gilroy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy was founded in 2010 by Carlos “Wookie” Melo and John Magoo Villarruel. A pillar in the Gilroy community, at Gilroy BJJ they believe it is equally important to build champions on as well as off the mat! Current owners Carlos Melo and Morgan Chapell are both law enforcement officers and are dedicated to serving their respective communities.
Current staff at Gilroy BJJ include world champion Carlos “Wookie” Melo, masters world champion Jose Leon, IBJJF open champion Morgan Chapell, and masters world champion Edward Solis. After knowing Professor Caio for many years in 2019, Gilroy BJJ became an official affiliate of the Caio Terra Association.
