Ever since he was a kid, Mason dreamed that one day he'd be in the UFC. After going 6-0 as an amateur and finishing all his opponents, he turned pro, going 2-0, winning his Bellator debut. Then his MMA career took a turn for the worse with a concussion, after concussion. He was faced with a tough decision.
After many months of being unable to train, he made the decision that would change his life forever. Mason shifted from MMA to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and in 2019, he moved to San Jose, California, and joined CTA. Things weren't always easy, as Professor Caio is very demanding. Mason embraced the challenge, worked diligently, and continued to remain focused on his goals. He went on to become the third American to win the Brazilian nationals, competed in two ADCC tournaments, and became an 8-time Submission Grappling Underguardian champion. Last month, he became the first UFC BJJ Light Heavyweight champion. The path may not have been what he had in mind, but the goal remained the same. Become a UFC champion, defend your title, and write your name in history.
Congrats, Mason, keep working hard, push through the setbacks, and keep moving forward. Proud of all you have accomplished, and we can't wait to see how this story ends!
